About Mr. Mack:

Where you from fool? Da 865.

It was only a matter of time.

Alcoa/Knoxville rapper and mixtape artist Mr. Mack brought attention to the area code and the Knoxville hip-hop scene in 2006 with Where You From (Da 865), and he's still representing East Tennessee.

In a 2006 interview with the Knoxville News Sentinel, Mr. Mack discussed the Knoxville hip-hop scene and the hope that his breakout hit might open doors for other local hip-hop artists:

"People might not realize it, but (there are) beaucoup rappers around here," Mr. Mack says. "There's a lot of people around here that I'm dealing with on my mix-tapes. What people don't understand is people ain't giving it a chance. When I hit the radio, people thought I was this huge dude, but I've been here the entire time. Any one of the guys I'm affiliated with around here has got just as good songs that could be on the radio.

"Me being on the radio right now wasn't a big step for just me; it was a big step for all of us, 'cause like I said, I represent for everybody. If all the other local rappers take the proper steps like I took, they'll be the next ones to be on the radio and be representing this thing right here with me. You never know; someone else might get a call out of the blue the same way I did and make something happen. It's a big step for all of us. It's opened doors for people to give some of these other rappers a chance."
